Equine Extension


NadeauJenifer Nadeau joined the UConn Animal Science Department in August, 2001 as the Equine Extension Specialist. She has worked with horses since the age of 8. Her experience includes working at a trail riding facility, manager of a hunter/jumper facility, manager of a veterinarian’s horse and sheep farm, working as a night watch at a historic Thouroughbred breeding farm, driving and training draft horses, and working with therapeutic riding programs. Dr. Nadeau is also President of the American Youth Horse Council and advisor to the UConn Equine Club and Sigma Alpha chapter. Her goal is to improve equine health through evaluation of current practices and the development of new practices, leading to sound equine health management programs for horse owners to utilize. She is very interested in best management practices for horse owners, therapeutic riding programs, horse health and she puts on the CT Horse Symposium and Camp Instructors Horsemanship Safety Clinic annually in addition to participating in regional and national initiatives for horse owners through eXtension and other collaborative efforts. She also hosts the on site assessments for the Master Equine Manager Program in collaboration with Iowa State University.
